What Individual Therapy Is and How It Works

Individual therapy is a form of talk therapy focused on helping you better understand yourself, your experiences, and the patterns shaping your life. At Woven Wellness Group, we provide individual therapy in Cincinnati, Ohio (in person and virtual), with virtual individual therapy available to clients throughout Ohio and Kentucky.

Our work supports clients who want to feel more grounded, aligned, and connected to themselves. We take a trauma-informed, relational, and intersectional approach—recognizing that identity, lived experience, privilege, and oppression all influence how safety, stress, and coping show up.

What Individual Therapy Is Not

Individual therapy is not about fixing you, assigning blame, or pushing you toward a particular outcome. It is not a place where you’re expected to have all the answers or move faster than feels safe.

Instead, therapy is a collaborative space to slow things down, make sense of your internal world, and build tools that support clarity, self-trust, and meaningful change.

What to Expect in Individual Therapy

Clients seek individual therapy for many reasons, including anxiety, trauma, shame, burnout, identity exploration, relationship patterns, difficulty with boundaries, and feeling disconnected from themselves or others.

In sessions, you can expect a steady, compassionate space where we:

  • Explore patterns shaped by past experiences and current stressors

  • Support nervous system regulation and emotional awareness

  • Clarify values, needs, and boundaries

  • Build practical coping and communication tools

  • Strengthen self-trust and internal alignment

Our approach balances insight with skill-building, helping you apply what you learn in therapy to daily life.

Trauma-Informed and Identity-Aware Care

We understand that healing does not happen in a vacuum. Our work is grounded in an intersectional lens that considers how race, gender, sexuality, body size, ability, class, culture, and systemic oppression shape mental health and access to safety.

We offer care that is culturally responsive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and attentive to power, privilege, and lived experience—while centering your agency and choice.

Evidence Based Individual Therapy Approaches

Our clinicians use a range of evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches to support healing, self-understanding, and nervous system regulation. Treatment is tailored to your goals, history, and readiness, and may integrate one or more of the following modalities:

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE): A body-based approach that helps resolve trauma and stress by supporting nervous system regulation and restoring a sense of safety in the body.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): An evidence-based trauma therapy that helps process and integrate distressing memories so they hold less emotional charge in the present.

  • Relational and Attachment-Based Therapy: Focuses on understanding patterns shaped by early relationships and how they impact self-trust, boundaries, and connection.

  • Trauma-Informed Talk Therapy: Integrates pacing, consent, and regulation skills to support healing without overwhelm.

Not every clinician practices every modality, and we are intentional about matching clients with therapists whose training and approach best fit their needs.

Therapist Training & Scope of Practice

Our clinicians have advanced training in trauma-informed and relational therapy and practice within clearly defined areas of competence. We are intentional about offering care only in areas where our therapists are fully trained and equipped.

We encourage clients to review individual clinician profiles to learn more about specialties and approaches, and we are happy to help match you with a therapist who fits your goals and needs.
