What Relationship Therapy Is and How It Works

Relationship therapy is a form of talk therapy that focuses on how people connect, communicate, and navigate challenges together. At Woven Wellness Group, we provide relationship therapy in Cincinnati, Ohio (in person and virtual), with virtual relationship and couple’s therapy available to clients throughout Ohio and Kentucky.

We work with couples, partners, and people in a wide range of relationship structures to understand patterns, reduce conflict, and strengthen emotional and relational safety. Our approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based relationship models.

What Relationship Therapy Is Not

Relationship therapy is not about taking sides, assigning blame, or deciding whether a relationship should continue. It is also not limited to married couples or traditional relationship structures.

Instead, therapy focuses on helping partners understand the cycles they get stuck in, build clearer communication, and develop tools for repair, boundaries, and connection—based on each relationship’s values and goals.

What to Expect in Relationship and Couples Therapy

Clients seek relationship therapy for many reasons, including ongoing conflict, emotional disconnection, trust concerns, communication breakdowns, life transitions, affair recovery, intimacy challenges, and preparation for marriage or long‑term commitment.

We provide relationship therapy for:

  • Couples and married partners

  • Premarital counseling

  • Ethically nonmonogamous (ENM) relationships

  • Polyamorous and nontraditional relationship structures

  • Partners navigating identity, role, or family changes

In sessions, you can expect a steady, structured, and supportive space where we:

  • Identify recurring patterns and conflict cycles

  • Better understand relational needs currently being unmet

  • Strengthen emotional attunement and responsiveness

  • Build communication and repair skills

  • Clarify needs, boundaries, and shared goals

  • Practice tools you can use outside of session

Evidence-Based Relationship Therapy Approaches

All clinicians at Woven Wellness Group are trained in the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach to relationship therapy focused on communication, conflict management, and building shared meaning.

Some of our therapists also practice Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which emphasizes attachment, emotional safety, and strengthening secure emotional bonds between partners.

We tailor these approaches based on your relationship structure, goals, and readiness—always with attention to consent, pacing, and emotional regulation. Each clinician practices within clearly defined areas of training and competence to ensure ethical, effective care.
